Streaks are the most reliable trick in habit design, and ADDR uses them shamelessly. Here's why a daily streak works — and how to keep yours alive.
Why streaks work
A streak converts a vague intention ("I should do this more") into a concrete, visible number you don't want to lose. Psychologists call the underlying force loss aversion: a 14-day streak feels like something you own, and breaking it feels like losing it. That small daily stakes is enough to get most people to show up.
The streak in ADDR
Complete at least one addition each day and your streak grows by one. The flame on your streak screen burns a little brighter as the number climbs. Miss a day and your current streak resets — but your longest streak is always remembered, so your best run is never erased.
Achievements as milestones
Streaks pair naturally with milestones. ADDR has eleven achievements, from First Addition to Principal Addition Architect, plus a Certified Number Professional badge for reaching a seven-day streak. Each unlock is a small celebration that marks progress and gives you a reason to come back.
Tips for keeping your streak
- Anchor it to an existing habit. Add two numbers right after your morning coffee, or while waiting for an app to load.
- Use the widget. Keep your streak on your Home or Lock Screen so it's a visible nudge.
- Lower the bar. The requirement is one addition. On a busy day, that's three seconds. Do the minimum and protect the streak.
- Add from your wrist. The Apple Watch app makes it a single tap, so there's no excuse to miss a day.
Is a daily addition habit useful?
We'll be honest: adding two numbers a day will not transform your life. But the habit of opening something that delights you, completing a tiny ritual, and feeling a small spark of accomplishment? That part is genuinely nice. ADDR just wraps it in confetti.
The streak isn't really about math. It's about showing up — and enjoying it when you do.
